Liturgical Worship

Simply put, liturgical worship is a communal form of worship which has a set pattern of prayers, scripture readings and actions. Liturgical worship provides us with a consistent and familiar framework for worship which focuses our attention on God and his grace, not on ourselves. Our liturgy is rooted in the ancient texts and traditions of the historic Lutheran church. Our hymns are classic and include composes such as JS Bach, Beethoven and Luther himself. Below are two excellent books to explain Liturgical Worship. Eckhardt’s book is a collection of his short essays that talk about why we, as liturgical Lutherans, do what we do. Cooper, on the other hand, talks specifically about the various sections of our Divine Service, their historical roots, significance and meaning.
