In some ways it feels like the passing of an era. I’ve been at St. Mark’s three years. Long enough to know some of the history. Not long enough to know the secrets. But one of the things that smaller churches typically have are “names”. I don’t mean that to put anyone else down, but certain surnames often are associated with certain churches. In the church I grew up in there were Studemanns. One of the names at St. Mark was Bushman. The last Bushman name received Christian burial today. She is survived by a daughter in the congregation and a sister-in-law, but the name passes. The words said today.

Requiem in pace, Jeanne Bushman.

At the same time my father-in-law is not in great shape, any prayers would be appreciated. The parson’s wife has been away. Back for a short time probably to go again. Been watching the three kids in the meantime.

With Thanksgiving a couple of days away, I should note that we are able to say thanks even in the middle of hardship. Churches are an extended family. And this one is a good one.

Our vacation bible school is going to be August 22 – 26. It will be from 9 AM until 11:30 AM. We are hosting it jointly with West Henrietta Baptist. Openings & Drop off will be across the street. Closing & Pick up here at St. Mark.

The theme is Group’s Panda.

Holy Week Services

Our Holy Week Schedule will be –

Maundy Thursday – Thursday, April 21st at 7:30 PM with Communion

Good Friday – Friday, April 22ns at 7:30 PM – Tenebrae reading of the passion

Easter – Sunday, April 24th @ 10 AM
(all are welcome to join an Easter Breakfast – bring dish to pass – at 8:30 AM)

Christmas Eve Services

We are having two Christmas Eve (Fri. Dec 24th) services this year.

The primary Candlelight service is at 7 PM.

We will also have an anticipation/midnight service starting at 11 PM. (There will be candles here also, but the tenor is a little different. I will not be singing this year, but if you would like to, please contact Ethel Louise).

All are welcome at either service.

CPH ask the CEO

Concordia Publishing House is running an interesting viral campaign.

I asked three questions…
Given the changes in publishing technology and distribution (e-readers, print-on-demand, amazon, etc.) I guess I have a three questions:
1) What is the thinking behind binding CPH so closely to one translation of the Bible? As a publisher, wouldn’t publishing an LSB-NLT or LSB-NIV be an attractive proposition?
2) The LCMS has made a huge investment in an educated clergy. Is there some way that you can see leveraging that fact, CPH as a brand, and the new technology to extend the reach? What would get in the way?
3) If you could have every pastor in synod relay one message from CPH to their congregation, what would that message be?

I’ll post a follow if any are answered.

Here is a ultimate sad plea, “please like us, please…” But seriously, click the like button for the St. Mark Lutheran application. We get to five users/likes we can get in the listings. I don’t want to have to register my three kids. I’d like to get a bunch more photos in the box if at all possible.

There are also like buttons for individual posts, and if you leave a comment you can cross post it to you facebook wall with a check mark. If you just press like it will publish to you wall that you like the post with a link to the post.
