Meditation
“Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness; for we fo not know how to pray as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with sighs too deep for words.” That sentence is a comfort, but has also been a trouble. The Word of the Lord is a two edged sword. I am glad that my pathetic utterances and attempts at prayer are not the only thing that gets placed before God. Please, Spirit, intercede, give the proper words and expressions. That is the comfort. The trouble is always what comes next. When I am busy praying for home and hearth and all the apparantly good gifts of God, what is the Spirit saying on my behalf? Father, to keep this one in the fold, he asks for trial? Spirit, if that is what you are saying, mind telling me as well? It would seem to be a mark of spiritual maturity that our verbal prayers approach the Spirit’s Words…and that hardest prayer of all, your will be done, is said with conviction and not just skill or memory. We never reach that in this life, it is always a pilgrimage. The glory comes in the new creation.
Spirit, keep our words deep until that new creation.
